Healthy successful organizations are peaceful organizations.

There is an important challenge that a collaborative organization must overcome. The organization must be able to recognize differences, accept differences, and bridge differences.

Differences come in many forms, race, gender, age/generational, ability/disability, culture, language, sexual orientation, education level, socio-economic status, learning style, work style, personality, experience level. Any of these differences can become a barrier that divides people.

Leaders and managers need the skillset to accept and engage differences. They must set an example so that others can learn and engage in this important work.

Principled Negotiations maintain a good working relationship for the future. Even when the best possible solution is not very satisfying, there can be a negotiation of acceptance, understanding, respect, and face-saving.

The subject of the retreat was complex and had been the subject of much controversy and emotion. The meeting was an enormous success, exceeding the most optimistic expectations. There is no question that your sensitive and wise facilitation was an essential ingredient. You effectively involved all of the participants, and provided guidance through the thicket of issues while never being heavy-handed.
